Worth Noting: India's New Comic Book Hero Fights Rape, The Woman Behind He for She, Women Changing the World
1. Elizabeth Nyamayro the Brains behind He
for She Campaign
Emma Watson's He for She speech at the UN Women this
year has made our list of 'Powerful Speeches by Women in 2014' and has
been one of the most talked about topic at almost every women's meet-up around
town. Now, meet the the brains behind the UN's He for She campaign, Elizabeth
Nyamayaro - who has snagged some of corporate America's top execs to
promote gender equality.
Elizabeth on her inspiration to launch He for She
I joined UN Women about 11 months ago, and during my orientation,
it became really clear that if we were going to advance the conversation about
young women, we needed something that was going to change how we look at gender
equality in a positive way. We need to make it a global issue. If it remains a
women’s issue, then progress will remain slow. Men still hold power so you
can’t really speak about imbalance against women without finding a way to
engage men as meaningful partners.

2. India's New Comic Book Hero Fights Rape
The story of a brutal gang-rape in India has
inspired Ram Devineni, a New York-based filmmaker, to create a comic book
superhero, Priya.
Two years ago, a 23-year-old woman was
brutally gang-raped on a moving bus in New Delhi. Three days later she died from
her injuries. The incident pushed millions in the city and all over India to
protest the widespread violence against women. The protest led to tougher laws
and empowered women to stand up against sexual violence.
Now, Devineni, has created a storyline
around Priya where is a survivor of gang rape who seeks to stop violence
against women. - NPR

Setting the Agenda and How 43 Women Are Changing the World for Women in 2015
In
celebration of Elle's 30th anniversary in 2015, the magazine will be launching
one of their most powerful initiative to date, a board of 43 powerhouses who
are joining forces to improve the lives of women, some of these women include Kerry Washington, Tracee Ellis Ross and Tory Burch. The article will appear in the
January 2015 issue of Elle magazine.
Kerry's Agenda: "People say to me,
'I'm just too busy to think about politics.' But here's the thing: You may not
be thinking about politics, but politics is thinking about you. Today there are
people trying to take away rights that our mothers, grandmothers, and
great-grandmothers fought for: our right to vote, our right to choose,
affordable quality education, equal pay, access to health care. We the people
can't let that happen."
Tracee's Agenda: "My desire for us as
women is that we remember our true nature: the fullness, freedom, and power of
our womanhood as more than objects of desire. Bringing together a powerful and
thoughtful group of women is always a great idea. When our voices are gathered
together, we have a collective wisdom that can create monumental change."
Tory's Agenda: "Entrepreneurship can
be an important path to women's economic empowerment, but it's not easy. I'd
like to use this platform to reach women who are interested in starting or
growing a business and direct them to resources that can help them achieve
their goals, including access to capital. But this is about more than capital.
It's about leveling the playing field."
