Her Wknd Guide: Create a Power List for Your Life
Creating a list is a great way to identify what you want to make things happen. It's like aligning your action plan with the goals you set. The great thing about creating lists is that they are simple. It is easy to break down and convey what you mean in bite sizes. And most importantly, it is great for helping you to organize your life and get things done.
This weekend's guide, create a POWER list of everything for your life!
While it is a new year and we would suggest creating a power list for the year and create one for your life. Your lists may include, people to call, lists of ideas, people/brands you want to collaborate with, lists of places you want to visit, places you want to work and so on.
Where do you start?
If you haven't already, create a personal mission statement. Creating and knowing your personal mission statement helps you to zoom in on what you want to get done. Do you know your purpose? Knowing your purpose will help you to create a perfectly crafted personal mission statement for your life. Your personal mission statement should provide a path, a guide to the actions you take and guide to decision-making. Simply put, it's your goal for your life and what you want to do in this world.
Once you have created your personal mission statement, identify and set the goals you want to achieve.
Yes, you can create outlandish goals too. Not just for the purpose of creating them, but to challenge you to go for those big dreams. Remember to set measurable goals. And since we are kicking off a new year, it would be perfect to identify the goals you want to achieve this year.
For each of those goals identified, create a list. Create different lists for everything, people you want to meet, places you want to go, books you want to read, places you want to work.
Here a few tips to help you:-
- Write down every idea you have.
- Walk with a notepad or utilize an app that is perfect to help you categorize your lists. We utilize Evernote for creating our lists since it works perfectly for us.
- Make a list of tasks to complete every day - yes, like a to-do list.
- At the end of each day, check off what you have achieved - and indicate the progress made.
- Make your goals measurable– outlandish goals are good. But they should be measurable too.
- Include all your goals on your list - personal, career, finance, relationship
- It is okay to make changes to your list, remember it is not set in stone. Always feel free to add new and exciting things to your list that will challenge you to grow into the best version of yourself.
On Evernote, we have created a folder called 'The List' - it's our power list of brands we would love to work with, people we want to feature, conferences we would like to attend, topic ideas and event ideas. Last year, we created our power list of the ladies we wanted on our team and the persons we wanted to work with for our Twitter Chat sessions, which for the most part happened. So, yes, lists really do work.
After the list, then what?
Each day work through these lists by ticking off what you have done or the steps you have taken towards your big goals.
Throughout the year, you may get a bit overwhelmed, lose focus or creativity - use your list to inspire you to keep going.
Amber of Ember and Marchdid a really great post on 5 Reasons to Create a Lists, also Richard Branson's 'New Year's Resolution, Make A List, Get I Done' provided some useful tips on creating your own lists to get things done.
